POSITION: Senior Manager of Social Studies

LOCATION: DSST Home Office (Denver, CO)

SALARY: $75,000-$84,000 based on aligned years of experience up to 6 years. We also offer a relocation stipend for anyone joining us from 75 miles or more from Denver!

STATUS: Full time year round, benefits eligible, exempt, hybrid position (remote/in-person)

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Manager of Social Studies will drive strong academic results in social studies courses across all DSST campuses 6-12. The Senior Manager of Social Studies and their team is responsible for the curriculum and assessments for all social studies courses, the vision for excellent social studies instruction and how this connects to our overall vision for Curriculum and Instruction across all content areas, in addition to leader and teacher professional development in service of this vision.

Humanities Leadership (20%)

  • Lead on the implementation of DSST’s vision for Social Studies instruction across all of DSST’s schools and across 6th – 12th grade

  • Use data to effectively assess current state of social studies, diagnose areas of need and set goals

  • Build relationships with members of the administration team on all campuses in order to positively impact student outcomes

Professional Development (40%)

  • Plan and lead professional development for school leaders & teachers on strategic aspects of the Humanities Vision, curriculum implementation, assessment, and aligned elements of DSST’s strategic plan.

  • Collaborate with school instructional coaches to support teacher development in instructional practice, lesson planning & internalization, and curriculum implementation in social studies courses, through professional development and coaching.

  • Support teacher leaders to plan and execute strong content-specific professional learning and collaboration in Social Studies.

Curriculum Implementation and Assessment (40%)

  • Ensure 6-12 social studies curriculum alignment and coherence.

  • Regularly observe classrooms to ensure the quality of DSST social studies instruction

  • Ensure quality of DSST social studies standards and alignment to external and internal benchmarks

  • Recommend and support schools with implementing high quality curricular resources and best practices.

  • Lead the selection, creation, and revision of all internal network social studies assessments to ensure their quality and alignment of social studies assessments to grade-level standards and proficiency bar

  • Gather and respond to teacher feedback on social studies assessments

  • Support network assessment administration by managing the implementation of social studies assessments across the network

  • Coordinate norming and calibration to ensure network social studies assessments are scored consistently and accurately across the network

  • Lead on social studies assessments and curriculum and support with assessment and curriculum systems, administration, and execution

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5+ years of experience as a secondary (6-12th grade) or post secondary classroom Social Studies Teacher

  • At least 1+ year of experience as a school instructional leader (ASD, DCI, Department Chair, Content/Course Leads)

  • Strong track record of instruction and a high bar for student achievement

  • Deep understanding of the Common Core history standards and assessment best practices

  • Demonstrated belief in and knowledge of how to serve all students in order to accomplish the mission of DSST. This includes experience and knowledge in serving students in Special Education and Multi-Language Learners.

  • Proven commitment to and experience with serving students of color, students with disabilities, and/or multilingual students

  • Self-awareness, a regular practice of reflection, and a desire to continuously improve

  • Demonstrated ability to coach, manage, and lead adults to outcomes

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across lines of difference

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated high level of professional maturity

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities at one time

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
